There’s a chance to win a free flight ticket from Asia to Hong Kong if you register by March 31. The giveaway will open up to residents of Southeast Asia on April 1, followed by mainland China, Europe and the United States on May 1. The campaign is being run by the Hong Kong Tourism Board and will cover airfare for round-trip economy class flights, as well as hotel accommodations and tourist attractions.
The Hong Kong Lottery is a traditional jackpot style lottery game that was first launched in 1975 as a way to battle illegal lotteries that were prevalent at the time. The lottery operates on a 6/49 matrix, where you select six numbers from 1 to 49 and, like other lotteries around the world, a machine picks the winning numbers for each draw.
In addition to the thrice weekly HKJC Mark Six draws there are also special “Snowball Draws” throughout the year that have bigger jackpots. These are normally held during festivals or unique public holidays and the ‘Snowball Pool’ added to the first prize can build up to some substantial figures.
The HKJC is run as a non-profit organization and surplus monies are given to a variety of charities and community projects. Some of the main areas of life that benefit from HKJC proceeds are sports, healthy living, education, jobs and opportunities, entertainment and games, plus the cultivation of culture and arts.
